Did they say all the interviews are like this? It's so nervous hearing nothing at all. For me I never took any of the tests as a student in the U.S.

Just got invited for interview at Oxford!
Re: 2025 Sweat Thread
May I ask: Who are your interviewers? When is your interview scheduled? What is your proposed field of research?
Re: 2025 Sweat Thread
Re: 2025 Sweat Thread
Could you inform me whenever that happens? I’m trying to gauge when I should start worrying.

Re: 2025 Sweat Thread
I reached out to the grad coordinator at UMN to confirm if they have already released all the first round offers or if they haven't yet released all of them. I got the following response https://tree.gdn/f/vzmrpz.jpg . What does it mean?
Re: 2025 Sweat Thread
It means that they are unwilling (probably by law?) to provide you with this information, and you should wait, at the latest, until the middle of March (which seems to be a department-internal deadline) to get a definitive answer.dir_ich_let wrote: ↑Fri Jan 31, 2025 9:48 amI reached out to the grad coordinator at UMN to confirm if they have already released all the first round offers or if they haven't yet released all of them. Ok. But except for that one entry in gradcafe, has anybody else heard anything from Minnesota?mathwiz wrote: ↑Fri Jan 31, 2025 9:53 amIt means that they are unwilling (probably by law?) to provide you with this information, and you should wait, at the latest, until the middle of March (which seems to be a department-internal deadline) to get a definitive answer.dir_ich_let wrote: ↑Fri Jan 31, 2025 9:48 amI reached out to the grad coordinator at UMN to confirm if they have already released all the first round offers or if they haven't yet released all of them. Thank you! I really hope an interview is not necessary for an offer. Does anyone know if this is the case for any school?themathguy wrote: ↑Fri Jan 31, 2025 11:35 amnow i'm a lil confused too. they told me that they just wanted to know more about my interests and why uconn:3iknownothing wrote: ↑Fri Jan 31, 2025 6:39 amDid they say all the interviews are like this? All the UK schools require an interview before admission.iknownothing wrote: ↑Fri Jan 31, 2025 12:27 pmThank you! I really hope an interview is not necessary for an offer. Re: 2025 Sweat Thread
Has anyone here had an interview for UWashington or any other university because their speaking score was low? I want to know the type of questions they ask and what they pay attention to.
Re: 2025 Sweat Thread
Can you tell us about the interview: what they asked and, in general, what they paid attention to? I also have one of these interviews for my low speaking score at UWashangton.
Re: 2025 Sweat Thread
Interesting how there are no acceptances but only waitlists on gradcafe. Why is this the case?

I see UW has a Department of Applied Mathematics, and on the Reddit spreadsheet it shows the acceptance is in applied. Perhaps there's a separate committee for pure?monoid1066 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 31, 2025 3:53 pmI haven't heard anything from them either

I got one yesterday for pure math, but in the email they said "because of special budgetary constraints this year on the number of Teaching Assistantships we can give, we were able to accept fewer than 5% of the applicants."iknownothing wrote: ↑Fri Jan 31, 2025 4:33 pmI see UW has a Department of Applied Mathematics, and on the Reddit spreadsheet it shows the acceptance is in applied. I'm not really comfortable to state my interviewers, but my interview is scheduled for next week. I listed a few areas of research in my application (some very pure, some quite applied). I believe I am being considered for operator algebras in particular.

PACM! You too? I was wondering this too, if the rejections here and on GradCafe are only for pure.

It’s more like a casual talk than an interview, so don’t be nervous.

Is it by email or on portal? I just checked both email and portal and I can't see anything. Will check again a few hours later.
Also is it acceptance or rejection? It's also possible that rejection comes later.

At this point, I think I should just email them to know if I am outright rejected.
