It looks like UIUC also releases some acceptance. I do not have any updates tho
It doesn't seem like a legitimate entry. Based on the data available on this forum, it seems UIUC releases the decisions around early February. Moreover, UIUC clearly doesn't require any GRE scores, but for some reason that person emphasized on not submitting the GRE scores.
Hi, that was my entry and it is legitimate. I emphasized the various factors of my application since many people on GradCafe do not do that. Additionally, I mentioned the GRE in particular since some schools treat the GRE (or lack thereof) differently than others. Given I was accepted without submitting, I suppose it does not matter for admission. I received an unofficial offer of admission on January 10 and an official letter in my portal on January 13. Additionally, as of today, I have been invited to attend the Community of Scholars visitation week (
https://grad.illinois.edu/diversity/cos). Here are some images of what the standard

offer and acceptance letters look like:
Offer letter:

Acceptance letter:
https://tree.gdn/f/ONaxk4.png
Additionally, here is the visitation email I received today:
Visitation email:

EDIT: I forgot to mention that I met with someone from UIUC and fellowship offers should be coming out in the next couple of weeks. They said they met with some admitted students from JMM to talk to them in-person about fellowships.
Go off king (or queen)

What happened to Northwestern this time? Last year they already had sent the first round of rejections by now.

Congratulations. Did you receive one (or did you only hear from someone else)? Why does this year have so many unofficial admissions, which happens so early in the season?

I’ve been wondering the exact same thing. Every school feels like it’s sending unofficial offers.

Last year UIUC sent some offers in mid jan and then the bulk of the offers in feb so perhaps we're ok?

I had my Cambridge interview yesterday. It was for their applied math program but you wouldn’t guess that from the interview; the questions were all about abstract functional analysis. I imagine they’ll ask you about the areas of mathematics you listed as being interested in or have particular experience with (functional analysis in my case).

Last year they sent their open house a lot later. It’s not a good sign.

Did your application include any research papers? If so, did they not ask you about your projects?

What do you mean? From the looks of it very few people have received offers so far, and I wonder if maybe the offers given out so far are fellowship ones, and regular ones to come out later?

I mean that the person who posted the offer posted an invite to an open house. If you click the link they shared, you see that the open house says grad divisions have already invited all the students they plan to invite to the open house. That’s what I mean when it’s not a good sign. I expect all realistic candidates will get a visit invite, and it looks like it’s too late for the visit invite this year.

It appears to be a 'Community of Scholars' visitation in person. So what about international applicants? I believe the open house last year was online

No idea, I could just be doing the thing where I’m being a doomer so I don’t get my hopes up. But the website doesn’t say anything about international vs domestic IIRC, it just says grad programs can invite their admitted students.

I was wondering about that too. Past few years pretty much every year they released on Jan 25 or 26. Makes me think I’m cooked which sucks because it’s probably the least competitive school I applied to.

y'all are sweating about the wrong thing. trump just paused all federal grants and loans. this may lead to nullification of existing grants and all federal fellowships. if you're still not sweating, expect raw admissions numbers to go down across the board with the increased burden on departments

It depends when funds are allocated. It’s possible this upcoming year’s funds are already distributed to universities but it is plausible that admission numbers will go down. I know a few people who had their offers revoked to grad school because their funding was tied to NIH which got pulled recently too.

Fr, tf does this mean for the GRFP? From what I read they canceled all NSF review panels this week to “adjust their review process to align with the new executive order.” I wrote about having a disability and diversity in my statement so feels like I’m cooked with their new DEI measures.
Not a single PhD program I applied to has released any admissions decisions yet, so feels like things are at least gonna be delayed further (and the GRFP). People on Reddit said every university is probably in crisis mode trying to figure out what this will mean. **** this.

All NSF grants (including GRFP, which is an NSF grant) are on hold (
https://www.npr.org/sections/shots-heal ... ei-science). So that one is a bit cooked right now, regardless of what you wrote about (whether it was diversity or not).

So they sent interview invites 2 days in a row, won't that be a lot of people? How many people do they interview and what percentage get accepted, it should be like 50 % right?

They send interviews sporadically until late February. The later you get one the less likely you are to be accepted based off past years.

So the people invited today are less likely to be accepted? Surely one day shouldn't matter lol. Perhaps what you are saying is true for people getting interviewed after the first batch is interviewed.

any ideas about how the federal funding freeze is going to affect math phd applicants/candidates? I understand how it may impact folks in the biological sciences but what about math grad students? as far as I know, most of us get departmental funding (while some supervisors may be supported by federal grants), right?

any ideas about how the federal funding freeze is going to affect math phd applicants/candidates? I understand how it may impact folks in the biological sciences but what about math grad students? as far as I know, most of us get departmental funding (while some supervisors may be supported by federal grants), right?
This was discussed briefly earlier in this thread in the context of the GRFP. I really can’t speak on statistics related to how most math departments obtain their graduate student funding. However, I know for a fact that the fellowship I was offered by UMD AMSC is funded by the NSF - I have a meeting with the PI of that fellowship next week so we’ll see how cooked we are. There is a lot of confusion now related to the extent of the pause as well as already awarded/distributed funds. I’m sure graduate departments are going to do their best to do right by their admitted students. Nonetheless it does feel like now is a bit of a shitty time to be a grad student - last Trump administration graduate student stipends became taxed more - so not to say we probably couldn’t see this coming.

Has anyone heard back from Texas A&M University?
I am a student here, and the graduate director said today that offers will be going out tomorrow or the day after.

Anyone have any thoughts on if UPenn will be sending out more open house invites? Beginning to lose hope—assuming an open house invite is needed for acceptance.

Email I got made it pretty clear it’s a necessary condition to attend in someway to get accepted. It felt like more of an unofficial offer than an interview invite, so they may not send out a lot of invitations until people decline.

My interview didn’t include questions about my specific research projects. They were much more interested in my mathematical expertise overall. I will mention that in a previous meeting with my potential supervisors (who were my interviewers) I was asked about my research projects.

Did someone have their Cambridge (math) interview? What did they ask?
I had my Cambridge interview yesterday. It was for their applied math program but you wouldn’t guess that from the interview; the questions were all about abstract functional analysis. I imagine they’ll ask you about the areas of mathematics you listed as being interested in or have particular experience with (functional analysis in my case).
Did your application include any research papers? If so, did they not ask you about your projects?

Is it just me or is this thread kinda really depressing? Maybe a little more so than previous years?
