Re: 2025 Sweat Thread
Should I be following up periodically with a place where I have been waitlisted, and if so, how soon and how often? Reopening the portal every 5 minutes is really deterioriating my sanity.
Re: 2025 Sweat Thread
This is what I believe is happening. I believe I was just in one of the first waves of acceptances and they accept the people they want to get fellowships first. The admissions person I talked to reached out to me to meet with me at JMM. I never saw the email funnily enough but, I did meet with him virtually this week. He said he was trying to meet some of the admitted students, probably to talk to them about fellowships. He told me I had already been unanimously nominated for one but, it was out of their hands now; the university has to review it. In past years, they have admitted 80+ students (https://grad.illinois.edu/about/data-dashboard) so I doubt they're done yet. I would expect a second round of acceptances in February, it is very early right now. The only other schools I have heard back from are Wisconsin and Brown.

Also, anyone with an unofficial offer from Berkeley, do you know when official offers are going to be sent?
Re: 2025 Sweat Thread
But that email is actually not an unofficial acceptance, it's just a shortlist. around 40 of applicants received that email last year and most of them got rejected in the end.
I am still waiting for the official acceptance.

Re: 2025 Sweat Thread
It seems Georgia tech started releasing decisions on 01/25 in previous years they have admitted 55+ plus students so I am hoping decisions keep rolling out though nervous right now , also I saw someone who got admitted to UPenn last year on march 4th without an open house invite so I really don’t understand it seems one should just hope until a rejection.

they aren't gonna pull people off until around apr 15 or so when people start committing. if you get grfp you should let people know. last year my buddy got 3 offers after he got grfp and he let departments know32noinweinof wrote: ↑Tue Jan 28, 2025 7:01 pmShould I be following up periodically with a place where I have been waitlisted, and if so, how soon and how often? Re: 2025 Sweat Thread
Has anyone here received an acceptance/rejection from UC Irvine? The application deadline was December 1.

OSU released their first round of admissions sometime between January 8 and January 13. The second round will be sometime in mid to late February.propositionalogic wrote: ↑Wed Jan 29, 2025 7:10 amHas anyone heard from Ohio State (Pure Math)? Also Maryland and Minnesota?

Wait, so you were interviewed twice?Involutive wrote: ↑Tue Jan 28, 2025 6:32 pmMy interview didn’t include questions about my specific research projects. They were much more interested in my mathematical expertise overall. I will mention that in a previous meeting with my potential supervisors (who were my interviewers) I was asked about my research projects.
maxo wrote: ↑Tue Jan 28, 2025 10:02 amDid your application include any research papers? If so, did they not ask you about your projects?Involutive wrote: ↑Tue Jan 28, 2025 8:51 am
I had my Cambridge interview yesterday. It was for their applied math program but you wouldn’t guess that from the interview; the questions were all about abstract functional analysis. I imagine they’ll ask you about the areas of mathematics you listed as being interested in or have particular experience with (functional analysis in my case).
Anybody else who had math interview (preferably pure math) with Cambridge, would you mind letting me know what sorts of questions they asked? And if they grilled you on your research papers?

Re: 2025 Sweat Thread
Sorry, I should have made that clearer. The first meeting I had with my potential supervisors was not a formal interview. It was just an "informal" chat where they asked why I'm interested in applying and a little about my research background and how it would align with their own research. This was before I submitted my application.
Also, honestly I do not believe there would be a major difference between the applied math and pure math interviews, given how entirely focused my interview was on pure math content. But I may be wrong.

Re: 2025 Sweat Thread
Did Maryland send out rejections? I haven't heard anything. Are they emailing, or is it on the portal?
Re: 2025 Sweat Thread
Has anyone heard anything back from the University of Vermont?
Re: 2025 Sweat Thread
There is a domestic rejection on GradCafe. I personally haven't heard anything. Maryland's own department says "Acceptances are made from February through mid-April. You will receive an official notification through email and through the graduate application portal when a decision is available." (Source: https://www-math.umd.edu/graduate/prosp ... l-semester) I suspect that they have started filtering.propositionalogic wrote: ↑Wed Jan 29, 2025 12:18 pmDid Maryland send out rejections? Historically, they release around the middle of next week.

On gradcafe there are two ASU posts, although none of them heard about funding. Have you received anything from this school? I'm getting nervous since it's one of my safety schools.

Is it safe to assume that radio silence from Michigan (pure math) is a rejection at this point?

Did anyone hear back from Dartmouth? I received an interview earlier today, but an hour later, someone posted on grad-cafe about an acceptance. I am so confused.

Re: 2025 Sweat Thread
I believe that’s very abnormal as the interview offers are just out. This year I see many unofficial offers on grad cafe but no rejections on our ends many days later. That being said, there is still plenty of correct information on it, but it seems there is something that stirs up our anxiety unnecessarily this year. Just stay calm and do what we should do.
Re: 2025 Sweat Thread
hey does anyone know if NC State is sending offers already? I saw two accepts on gradcafe but i thought their deadline was two weeks ago.

historically when is stanford mit coming out
Re: 2025 Sweat Thread
From looking at Grad Cafe... Next week??? For MIT
Re: 2025 Sweat Thread
for mit it will either friday this week or next week. Stanford usually releases unofficial acceptances on third or fourth friday in January but they are doing interviews this year so they should release unofficial acceptances by next friday
