2025 Sweat Thread
Re: 2025 Sweat Thread
It appears UChicago released waitlists now too.
Re: 2025 Sweat Thread
I saw that gradcafe post too, but I don't believe it: they haven't even released official acceptances yet, only unofficial. If I had to guess, someone is overreacting over the fact that they haven't heard anything and posted it as a waitlist despite the fact that uChicago hasn't actually released anything.

Re: 2025 Sweat Thread
My UChicago application portal was slightly changed this morning. Before, there was a duplicate of the 'Application Checklist' section with all the ticks from the sent in references. This was below the upload materials section. That duplicate was removed. Seems like they're doing something. Same for anyone else?
Re: 2025 Sweat Thread
Same for me. They do be doing funny things over there aren't they.32noinweinof wrote: ↑Mon Jan 13, 2025 5:30 pmMy UChicago application portal was slightly changed this morning. I saw that also but I don't have the grad app astrology skills to interpret this as meaning anything personally32noinweinof wrote: ↑Mon Jan 13, 2025 5:30 pmMy UChicago application portal was slightly changed this morning. It looks like UIUC also releases some acceptance. I do not have any updates tho

Re: 2025 Sweat Thread
Pet peeve: if a program hasn't reliably reported rejections, no one is yet on a waitlist. You simply haven't heard back. Note that they also haven't reported many acceptances, so I'm not saying you're rejected.

Re: 2025 Sweat Thread
It doesn't seem like a legitimate entry. Based on the data available on this forum, it seems UIUC releases the decisions around early February. Moreover, UIUC clearly doesn't require any GRE scores, but for some reason that person emphasized on not submitting the GRE scores.MonkyDLuffy2001 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 13, 2025 9:15 pmIt looks like UIUC also releases some acceptance. Re: 2025 Sweat Thread
See I mailed the grad office regarding this cause I was worried af too. I received a mail which said this: "We haven't released any decisions yet, and they may take as late as late February to come out."
And personally, I am paranoid about this too, but I've grown to not trust just one person saying they've received an acceptance. And if I am extremely paranoid, I am just going to mail the grad office and ask them politely where they are, on the admission decision train. Fairly sure this paranoia is just going to build as time goes by so I'm gonna wait until February to send even one more mail about decisions.

Just right now, one user in a Chinese forum posted his/her offer from OSU in Applied Math track.Lorentznummer wrote: ↑Mon Jan 13, 2025 11:26 pmSee I mailed the grad office regarding this cause I was worried af too. A reply from OSU said they sent out first round admissions yesterday and a second round is expected in Feb. Waitlist will be created after that.phanpu wrote: ↑Mon Jan 13, 2025 11:56 pmJust right now, one user in a Chinese forum posted his/her offer from OSU in Applied Math track.Lorentznummer wrote: ↑Mon Jan 13, 2025 11:26 pmSee I mailed the grad office regarding this cause I was worried af too. Re: 2025 Sweat Thread
Anyone else just get an email from MIT to create an account? I did that, but the new portal they're using says I haven't submitted an app (the old portal still says I have). Is this normal? Maybe we just get the decisions through the new portal even if it doesn't show our app?

Re: 2025 Sweat Thread
Any news on Penn open house this year? I know in the past it's been around this time that invites go out (though sometimes a little later).
Re: 2025 Sweat Thread
It'll probably come out this week. It seems everyone is a little behind so far with the winter storms and the new year being in the middle of the week.

No, there were notifications of waitlisting via the portal as well (with no email being sent).
Re: 2025 Sweat Thread
can I assume I'm rejected from Duke if I haven't received an interview offer yet
Re: 2025 Sweat Thread
They offer interviews into late January usually. Also, some people have been waitlisted without having gotten an interview in the first place. But, I'm in the same boat, and Im just assuming I'm rejected basically.
Re: 2025 Sweat Thread
Hi, does anyone know how many students UChicago typically accepts and how many are placed on the waitlist?
Re: 2025 Sweat Thread
I don't know about the waitlist, but in terms of how many they usually accept check out this site: https://provost.uchicago.edu/initiative ... ogram-data. They usually admit 40-60.

Just got an email from Toronto—gave me a studentID number with the note "NOTE: This e-mail message is not an offer of admission"
That means I'm in right??

Now the website has been restored and there's no change in my portal.
Re: 2025 Sweat Thread
USC just released decisions (at midnight what the heck). From talking to their table at the JMM, all decisions are final and there's no waitlist. 400 apps for 15 spots. I'm not the lucky one here.

Re: 2025 Sweat Thread
Would someone be able to explain how waitlists for these admissions work? I'm not really sure what the general procedure is, or if it varies by university. Thanks!
My current understanding is that if we suppose a university has space for 30 new students this year, they will accept maybe ~50 or so. They expect a proportion of these to not accept their offer. Students beyond this ~50 who had good applications but weren't made an offer can be placed on a waitlist. If a greater proportion of the initial offered 50 do not accept their offer, then waitlisted students are contacted with an offer.
