Economic matters aside is it a good strategy to take the subject test in both october and november?

Economic matters aside, I think yes.

Especially with the new ScoreSelect option which allows one to select the best score.

One problem is that for competitive programs, the deadlines are usually early December. Would our Nov scores arrive in time?

P.S.
I went ahead and registered for the Nov test. Looks like I am taking the test twice lol. Thanks for the idea.

Most of the Programs say that they don't care when they receive your test score, as long as they get it eventually. Many application websites will allow you to write in what score you got in their form. They don't start reviewing applications immediately. The main problem with this is that you could send them score without knowing what it is beforehand.

So, I guess we could submit our application with a blank "MGRE" entry and then send them the Nov scores later if its good? If the Oct score is good, I suppose we'll be able to fill in the MGRE entry and send it in by December 1st.

*Edit*

I meant there are two outcomes:

1) October Scores Good = We'll find out by Nov in time for the December deadlines.

2) October Scores Bad = Take the test in Nov. Wait until Dec 10 to find out the scores. Hopefully, we'll meet the deadline. If not, have to find some way to submit it after application submission.
