Schools that don't require the subject test

Post by meredith » Tue Oct 09, 2012 10:27 pm

The October GRE is impending, and I would personally like a backup plan in case things go terribly wrong. Perhaps it would be a good choice for us to compile a list of schools that don't specifically require the subject test.

University of Missouri
University of Idaho
Washington State
New Mexico State
University of Connecticut (strongly recommended, but not required)

Have you guys run across other schools? It would be silly for someone to go through the whole US News list and check each one, but if you happen to run across one in your application process, I would very much appreciate seeing it.

I'm also wondering: which universities (in the US) admit students without Math Subject GRE scores?

Also, which universities waive the Math Subject GRE requirement for Masters students?

N.C. State
University of Maryland
University of Tennessee
UCLA (this is for biomath, might be different for their pure math program)
University of Arizona

Of course, everything says "strongly recommended," so you should probably just submit your scores to them to show that you tried.

I was interviewed by ivy league non-math (pure or applied) programs when I didn't submit a subject test, even though they say the subject test is highly recommended.

But then I have a masters (from top tier school) and research experience.

Stony brook doesnt require it, and its AMAZING. So for all of us who would rather put the horrors of standardized testing behind us, and are otherwise pretty good applicants, there is hope!
