I don't understand why you are doing what you are doing. This forum is for people seeking advice and help, but all you want to do is stir up trouble.

You all really think a Professor is going to be browsing this time-wasting forum?

It is clear that whoever posted in the fake prof identity just got the name from the Syracuse website, which is easy to do.

Of course, trolls (by definition) have a lot of free time but does anyone seriously think nicole2 will be posting almost every day for the past three months, with a lot of details and personality traits of a person, and just be fake? This isn't the presidential election. Y'all just haters.

The professor posted proof that he was who he claimed to be. Chances are someone emailed Syracause to show them what one of their admits were planning on doing.

Hello -

I've seen there are couple admits with fellowships from Clemson on GradCafe. Have anyone heard back from them?

Thanks.

If I remember correctly, in my interview I was asked three to four questions. The first question was which course was the hardest for me and the second question was which is the course that I most enjoyed or found most useful. The third and fourth questions were related to inquiring who I would be interested in working with at the department and what my primary research interests were. All in all, pretty straightforward questions.

Of course the type of questions you may be asked may be different depending on the professor who interviews you.

He posted a picture of himself with a handwritten paper that identified himself on the forums and linked to his picture on the official university website to verify.

I can verify that he did post a picture of himself saying "Hi mathematicsgre.com" and it was linked to his personal website.

I was planning on visiting a school that I really like this March but I'm considering not going due to the Corona Virus. I'm not too worried about myself since I'm young, but I don't want to infect elderly people in my family. Airports are basically hubs for the disease.
Just a reminder, being young does not mean that you will be ok all the time. It can be found that this disease is really highly infectious if you look at some news about the outbreaks in China, Korea or Italy. So please be careful!

Berkeley is offering a digital open house, but I don't think it's a great replacement unfortunately. Berkeley is a fairly unique (and to an extent polarizing) city to live in. Probably what they had to do, though.

So true. We email these people directly about our own applications and they say nothing. Not a chance they’d be here telling students about offers.

BTW I accepted an offer so peace out. gl w/ NSF/grad school everyone except dijuahan(?) and nicole who were both rude/mean at various points and should do some self-introspection and work on those insecurities (maybe try yoga?).... but that's none of my business

My impression has been that people tend to either love it or hate it, depending on the person. It has a certain... feel and aesthetic to it, and if you're into it, you'll probably love the city, but if not, it can be a drag to live here. The city has some strong negatives going for it; if you can't appreciate the positives, you may not have a good time (negatives such as being somewhat run-down, extremely bad parking [counterbalanced by fairly decent public transit], astronomical cost of living, and a pretty high crime rate). The city is quite liberal, as is the student body, which will be a positive or negative depending on what you're after. It's also quite a busy / dense city, with a lot of people everywhere, which again, will depend on you whether or not you like it. I have friends who love it in Berkeley, and some that want to get out as fast as they can.

FWIW, I've had email exchanges with Professor Leuschke and it was indeed him here on this forum.

I second Sobolev_Inequality that someone probably informed Syracuse about what happened here, which led to Dr. Leuschke visiting this forum.

I don’t take orders from you. You need to be banned because your profile is a lie. Several of the schools you say you’re waitlisted at have not waitlisted anyone yet. And I know because I’ve been in contact with the graduate directors. If you are real, prove it. No one can get your last name from a screen shot on imgur. You are feigning concern because you’ve been exposed.

Why are you on these forums? No one believes anything you say except yourself. You’ve been exposed for lying. It begs the question: Why do you still post? The jig is up. Stop playing pretend. We all know for a fact that you have been lying. You have no credibility anymore.

I don’t appreciate the implication. I do not do things like that. The only contact I have with institutions concerns me, and me only. And as much as I think you’re a troll and just someone trying to start arguments, I would NEVER attempt to jeopardize someone’s admissions. Someone else contacted that professor.

What's up with Maryland and UCSD? Imho they work slower than Indian bureaucracy.

By the way, anyone heard back from Imperial?

Someone said UCSD is trying to release decisions by March 15. I think I saw someone else say mid-to-late March, so perhaps the 15th is optimistic.

Maryland is ALWAYS like this. They rejected me and several other people AFTER the April 15th deadline last year.

It’s also spring break for a lot of schools so don’t expect much this week or next week.

What's up with Maryland and UCSD? Imho they work slower than Indian bureaucracy.

By the way, anyone heard back from Imperial?

Cheers!
I emailed to UCSD and they said that they expect to notify applicants on March 16 or 17.

UCSD already had its open house for admitted grad students, last week (Thursday-Friday).

Yeah, I know. I'm just waiting for a formal rejection. I deserve that closure :p

There could be a second round of admits, but yes, I’m too waiting for a rejection.

Do you think the outbreak could delay decisions past April 15? If that's the case, what do we do for offers that require you to reply by the 15th?

Until and unless we hear otherwise, we have to assume the April 15th date will stand.

Well, since I still have like 5 schools outstanding and 3 waitlisted...it leaves me in a very awkward position

I sincerely hope they do not postpone application deadlines past April 15th, not sure how much more waiting I can do....

Not. I live in NYC, it's possible they are slowing down a lot from virus concerns.

Really sweating now. USC cancelled their visit day today and gave no mention of reimbursing the non-refundable costs incurred when planning the trip. I emailed them about it and they seem to be hesitant. I cannot take on the $550+ cost of that trip. I would have visited and risked getting sick before paying it myself.

You should be able to get the airfare back for no charge. I know that American Airlines and United are waiving their usual $200+ change fee for at least the month of March, and I assume other airlines are following suit. Though it's worth noting that some airlines only offer refunds in the form of travel vouchers (which often expire after a year).

As for hotel and other associated costs, you should call the establishment(s) and ask for a full refund. If any amount does not get refunded, you should endlessly hound USC until they fully reimburse you.

The change fee is just to switch the flight. That would be a wonderful option if I had any other foreseeable travel. Unfortunately, at this time I do not. But I will definitely try to call the hotel. Thank you for the advice.

USC is saying they will pay "cancellation fees" but not the full cost, of course there are no cancellation fees. I booked basic economy for everything since I wanted to spend as little of their money as possible, so that makes refunds more difficult.
