Has anyone heard anything from Cornell, Stony Brook, or Rice? Pure math for all of those; I know some results came out for the Cornell CAM.

Relatedly, I have heard that the number of admittances for some schools is lower than usual -- I would be interested in any information about that for any of the aforementioned schools as well.

I know an international student who got an offer from Cornell.

One professor at Stony Brook said on Wednesday that the admission committee is just about to start reading all the applications.

Those who got into Texas A&M, have you received any information on funding yet? If yes, how much is the stipend?

are you in applied maths or pure maths?
I am in pure math, discrete math track.
May I ask who interviewed you and what was it like?
Well. I am in discrete math track and I was interviewed by 3 professors including a committee member in this area. No technical questions and only some chat about past research, etc.

Did Brown release all of the offers? Or should we wait for another wave? :?

I heard (on this website) that more final decisions would be made/released this week.

I saw four Ph.D acceptances to Oregon State's math program on gradcafe and I understand they're accepting people according to a ranking list. Does anyone know whether they started sending out Master's admission offers as well, or whether Master's applicants are considered separately from Ph.D applicants?

Just received a waitlist from Johns Hopkins (pure math). They said they hope to be able to admit some students from the waitlist, but can't make any guesses as to when they'll have an update, since the possibility of admitting these students will depend on the admitted students and the results of grant applications.

They sent out a couple of acceptances last week. I am yet to receive a formal letter though. No word on funding either

I know Rutgers sent out offers to some domestic students. Did any international get any offer ? It has almost been 2 month since the deadline. You think it’s time to let go?? :(
I tried to reach out to the director but I got nothing

I'm an international student and I got accepted this weekend. But I went to college in the US, so maybe I was in the domestic batch. I don't know.

I have no idea. I am a domestic applicant and I applied to study logic or combinatorics. It seems only three people on gradcafe have received offers, so maybe it's by subfield or only domestic students so far. It is a small department though so who knows this might be all the offers they're sending.

Best of luck!

Oh they do interviews? Is this for pure or applied math (or both)?

Interviews are honestly really useful and I wish more departments did them.

Anyone poke at NYU or Columbia recently? I am worried NYU might be done with making decisions, in the past they seem to send out most offers during the first round. Columbia also taking in only 5 students is very worrisome.

I received an email from them earlier this afternoon letting me know that my application status had been updated. The portal had an acceptance letter in it which I read through. There was no mention of when they expect to send more offers so I have no news as to when others can expect to hear back from them. I will say though, my offer was official so I'm guessing that they will be sending out more official offers soon.

just FYI, NYU has 400+ applicants and plans to take 12 students. I think if someone who got an offer declined it, they might sent out more offers to other people. Also I believe in the past they sent out waitlist email later in March or so (from gradcafe).

Thank you, I didn't know NYU got so man applicants this year for such few seats. I guess it's fair to say if we didn't receive an offer we can count it as a rejection.

Most Group I programs get hundreds of apps for 10-20 spots. Schools like Princeton, Brown or Caltech maybe on the lower side, while those like Cal, UIUC or Maryland maybe more. They all know their historical yield rates very well and want to maintain or increase them and avoid having too many or too few in the cohort at the end. So, they give more offers than spots initially in the first wave, knowing roughly how many will go elsewhere. Then, as people turn them down, they may send out more offers sporadically through early April to make sure they fill up spots as they see how things are going. If you haven't been rejected or received an unfavorable waitlist letter, then you still have a small chance through early April to get an offer as others decline theirs to go elsewhere. Keep in mind that yield rates at some top 10 elite private schools are closer to or above 50% so they can send out far fewer offers initially compared to say large, top 100 publics where it's more like 20% of offers are accepted.

If you haven't received a waitlist or reject letter by early March, then you're probably on the waitlist anyway. You could always contact them in March to ask where you stand. They might tell you that you are one of the next in line if they send out more offers or if you are not likely to get one so that you can choose among your other options.

This is also why if you are lucky enough to ahve a couple official offers of interest and also one or more that you will not accept, then please turn down all those that you would not accept sooner rather than later. That will help reduce the uncertainty time for others, especially given the added chaos from the pandemic!

Thank you for the very informative reply! Your reply gives me some hope, but it is still hard to remain overly optimistic. I'll poke at them next month if it is still silent then.

No doubt the odds go down if you weren't in the first waves that usually come by very early March, but still a chance if no rejection letter. And I'm sure some poorly run admissions departments keep way to many people on their waitlist than needed:-( There are plenty of reputable reports here from recent years with lucky people getting offers from group I schools including some elites in late March and early April.

Let's keep high hopes! Though another user mentioned NYU has a habit of not rejecting people until late March or early April.

People who posted their profiles for Fall 2021, please keep it up to date because they are more reliable than gradcafe.

Two internationals got into brown's applied math on gradcafe. Not sure if this is real since brown usually send out results at once.
