University of Florida Interview (Fall 2021 Ph.D. Application)

Post by modularform » Tue Feb 09, 2021 12:53 pm

Hi!

I received an e-mail from the chair of the graduate search committee of UF asking me whether I am still interested in their program and if so, then there will be an interview (which is tomorrow). Did anyone else applying to UF Math Ph.D. also receive such similar e-mails for an interview? If so, then it will be good to know for me what kind of questions are being asked so that I can prepare? Or in general, in such interviews what kind of questions are asked? This will be my first interview so I don't have any such experience.

Thanks and regards!

Hi there! I had an invitation to interview as well. This is a GOOD THING for you, it likely means you're unofficially accepted to the university and they just want to chat for a little bit. My conversation lasted roughly 15 minutes and was very informal.

Tentative congrats :)

If you don't mind, can both of you please share questions they asked you?

Mine was _incredibly_ informal, effectively him just asking if I had any questions about the program. There were a couple issues with my application on the college's end that we had to sort out, but that was easy and amounted to fixing some paperwork.

ymmv of course, but I think UF's interviews are basically just unofficial acceptances.

Yes, mine was also incredibly informal. I was just asked whether I had any questions about their program or life in general at UF. That's it. Received the offer letter within an hour. Thanks!

Great! I will most likely accept the offer. Hope to see you at UF if you are going too.
