I got into it today with 20k stipend. I am trying to figure out if 20k is enough to live there. I am also researching on if staying at my home institute will prepare me better for the industry (I don't really feel like I can continue an academic track if I can only go there).

Is this place that bad?

I am gradually changing my mind. Most of the graduates of professors I want to work with land a job in relatively good programs. The teaching duty is not very heavy. I will figure out how doable 20k is in Rochester. The class setups are more pacted.
