Can anyone speak to the reputation of the department and PhD program at Tufts?
Hey! Sorry I'm not answering your question but did you get off the waitlist from Tufts recently or are you admitted in early Feb? Thanks!

I honestly don't know. But what I know for sure is that the departement is extremely extremely supportive, especially the grad students there. And, the professors are extremely chill, accessible and seem wonderful to work with. It seems like on the research-professor level, there shouldn't be any major hiccups if you choose Tufts. Besides that, I'm in the same boat as you lol.

Undergrad Institution: T20 Public University
Major(s): Mathematics
Minor(s): none
GPA: 3.79 out of 4.0
Type of Student: Domestic Mixed Male

GRE Revised General Test: Did not take due to it not being required.
N/A
GRE Subject Test in Mathematics: Read above.
N/A

Program Applying: Pure Math

Research Experience: Worked on a project in geometric group theory for the past 3 semesters, namely developing code that searches for specific subsets of projective space. Participated virtually in an REU on dynamics and topology, whose results my REU group and I are still gathering for publication. Gave a presentation on preliminary REU results at virtual conference.
Awards/Honors/Recognitions: None in math.
Pertinent Activities or Jobs: None in math.
Any Miscellaneous Points that Might Help:
My research interests are highly specific, and I talked about them in some detail in my SOP. All but one of my letter writers I had spent a fair amount of time performing research with, and the one outlier introduced me to the field that I am currently pursuing through readings.

Graduate Math Courses:
Algebraic Topology, Differential Topology, Riemannian Geometry, Hyperbolic Geometry/Teichmuller Theory, (as well as some reading with prof's that are difficult to call "courses", but definitely contributed to my knowledge and research direction)

Any Other Info That Shows Up On Your App and Might Matter:
First Generation Low Income student.

UMichigan - Accepted (3/18) and Attending!!!
UC Davis - Accepted (2/11) declined
Rice University - Accepted (1/21) declined

Without additional information like coursework, profile and research experience, it's not particularly helpful telling people where you are admitted and going, especially without a date.

Post it on gradcafe instead.

Some people just want to share how they have done, and where they are going with this community. We are all people celebrating each other and also working to get in. So the posts are not inherently about being helpful, I don't think. Gate's open come on in and all that.

If you are accepted to Tufts and don't plan on going, please kindly decline your offer. This will definitely help some of us. Thanks a lot.

I am offered admission at Purdue, and waitlisted at MSU, Boston University, and U of Arizona.
I am interested in algebraic number theory and arithmetic geometry.
Any insights/suggestions for which of the universities I should wait (considering the faculty), and for how long, will be very helpful for me.

Thanks in advance!

Hey! If u happen to know that u are not going to MSU, make sure u don’t forget to withdraw ur application. I was waitlisted there and my interests are also in ANT and arithmetic geometry. Thank u and good luck!

Program Applying: Pure Math, Philosophy

Research Experience: Undergraduate thesis in philosophy (tangentially related to logic but not substantively mathematical in any way), summer graduate school through MSRI (not really research but the closest thing I have in math). My master's program had a coursework option so I chose that as I was completing my undergraduate thesis at the time.
Awards/Honors/Recognitions: Junior & senior departmental awards.
Pertinent Activities or Jobs: Undergraduate peer tutor (2 years; primarily analysis & algebra), grader (2 years; linear algebra, abstract algebra, intro analysis, and transition to higher math), graduate instructor (taught 1 section of calculus 1), visiting lecturer in mathematics (1 year, full-time teaching calc 1 and 2 and a small private business school in New England).

Hi sorry for the late response! Yes, I had interviews at Rice and Michigan and was also able to meet professors during open house events at Washington, UT Austin, and UCLA. I'm sure you can ask to schedule a one-on-one meeting with professors at your admitted schools, most people are happy to meet to talk about the program or their research. Hope this helps!
