I got news from Michigan State for those who have applied there. As well I sent an email to Rutgers and got the response that my odds aren't very high, meaning a waitlist must have been made by now.
Send a letter to rutgers, get an pretty positive reply and kindly ask me to wait for late March. I assume that is a waitlist.

Hi guys! Someone heard anything about Penn State, Iowa State, Boston College, Boston University, Brandeis? The Grad Cafe shows only sporadic results for fall 2023.
Also I have applied to 8 schools, but have no rejections by the moment. No letters at all. Is that an optimistic sign?

What do you know about Michigan State?
I got admitted with a fellowship reducing my teaching hours today.

Virtual open house invitation from UIUC:
If you are receiving this email, you either have an offer, or are on a waiting list for admission to the PhD program in the department of mathematics at the UIUC.

Recieved this even if I have withdrawn my application.

"Thank you for your email and congratulations on receiving offers from other universities. Unfortunately at this stage it is unlikely that we will extend you an offer. I am sorry to pass on this news, we are a small PhD program and each year must turn away very talented students. These students often find success as doctoral students in mathematics elsewhere.
If you do continue to be interested in Boston College, you are welcome to apply again in a future year.

Good luck in pursuing your interest in mathematics!"

Were you notified of your acceptance via email? The portal really doesn't have an indication of whether an application has been accepted or rejected.

Is it typical not to get a response if you demonstrate interest while you’re on a waitlist?

Got rejection fron University of Connecticut. Pretty sad.
Never thought UConn would be highly competitive. Or, maybe I'm just under-qualified. It feels like that the ''All Rejected'' is approaching.
Good luck to those who are still waiting for their decisions, and congratulation to those who received the admissions...

Everything, unfortunately, is competitive these days it seems. Sucks because there are a lot of really qualified people who want to do math.

Rejection from U of Oregon. Really bummed as this was my top choice and based on my stats I feel this should’ve very likely been an acceptance. Seems like this year is more competitive than previous years surprise surprise. Also anyone else yet to receive an acceptance? I’m starting to get worried I actually might not get in to any programs.

I also received a rejection from UCONN but definitely wouldn't feel bad about it. Prof at my school just graduated from the PhD program from there a few years ago and was warned they were extremely competitive and hard to get into.

They told me:
"The Admissions Committee is reviewing applications and they will get back to applicants after decisions are made. This process usually takes several months, and at this time, we don’t have an exact date when decisions will be communicated."

I can certainly say by now that this year is harder than the last one. Most departments are accepting fewer people than last year.

If you see the UCSB statistics, the number of applicants is remarkably lower as compared to the last few years.

I am no expert so it would be very foolish of me to comment. But I do not think that second-round offers have been made as yet (those who have applied to UCSB will know better, I have not applied), hence the number of accepted students will surely increase.

yeah I know someone who got in but I didn't - so these statistics as you said probably only including 1st round offers

though it's kind of surprising to see a large drop in applications

I didnt end up applying due to the GRE Subject requirement. I emailed them and the grad coordinator said that the math department requested to remove the GRE requirement for this cycle but it got rejected. That's the likely reason why this year apps are down for UCSB plus funding has been cut everywhere

I applied for pure math, and about a week ago I got this email from the Executive Officer (idk what this is exactly, but he seems to be a professor) of the Ph.D. program:

"I am writing in regard to your application to the PhD Program in Mathematics at the CUNY
Graduate Center. Thank you for your interest our program.
I am writing to you to let you know that you are on our short list of candidates we are strongly
considering making an offer but the final decision has not yet been made. Can you please let me
know if you are still interested in the position and also if you have any questions. I am looking
forward to hearing from you. "

I replied but haven't heard back yet, so I guess they're probably still making decisions.

I'm not sure how much the GRE Subject requirement played a role, since the same drop can be seen even when you only look at the admissions statistics for programs which did not require any kind of GRE (for example the Education program). I'm sure it impacted it but there's probably more to the story than that. If I had to guess it's probably some economics shenanigans that I don't know anything about.

Also, to reply to the OP, the UCSB statistics only show a number for application count but not admissions count, so it's safe to say that second round decisions haven't been made yet. I got my offer 6 days ago, but they gave me until April 15 (which I think is standard) to accept. Idk how waitlists or second round decisions work, but the April 15 date is probably important.

This is a snippet from an email I got from the graduate director at UNC:

"The Graduate Committee is currently reviewing applications and will make a first round of offers sometime next week."

I don't belive I will personally be in this list of candidates receiving first offers since I wasn't invited to the grad student day, but those who were keep an eye out next week.

Any news from CUNY Graduate Center?
I applied for pure math, and about a week ago I got this email from the Executive Officer (idk what this is exactly, but he seems to be a professor) of the Ph.D. program:

"I am writing in regard to your application to the PhD Program in Mathematics at the CUNY
Graduate Center. Thank you for your interest our program.
I am writing to you to let you know that you are on our short list of candidates we are strongly
considering making an offer but the final decision has not yet been made. Can you please let me
know if you are still interested in the position and also if you have any questions. I am looking
forward to hearing from you. "

I replied but haven't heard back yet, so I guess they're probably still making decisions.
was this from debbie silverman? congrats also!
Thanks (still crossing my fingers tho)! I'm not sure who debbie silverman is, but I got emailed by christian wolf, who literally 10 mins before you posted got back to me lol. He just answered some of my questions (stipend stuff, how advisors are picked, etc.), but no new info about decisions.

Does anybody have an idea of how Cornell or Lehigh sends out Pure offers? I’ve seen rejections for Cornell and Lehigh Applied and heard like one acceptance for Cornell Pure but nothing at all from Lehigh. I haven’t been rejected from either yet so maybe I’m on some kind of waitlist?

How do you ask if you are on a short list? I don't know how to write this email, any pointers would be appreciated.

A friend of mine got an offer from Cornell like around the beginning of Feb. I know they've sent out rejections. Another friend of mine told me that if you haven't received anything from Cornell after they sent out rejections, it usually means you are waitlisted.

Same thing. They told me results would be out in 2 weeks, but alas. Don’t even know the perspectives on funding, specially for international students.
