PhD Interviews: Send Thank You Notes?

Post by dasgut » Wed Jan 25, 2012 12:32 pm

Do you send thank you notes to your interviewers after you're done? I always do after job interviews, but I have no idea what the etiquette is in the PhD application realm.

I think a short thank you note is appropriate. It shows you have manners and recognize that an interview is an opportunity not afforded to every applicant. It is also a way for you to let them know that, after the interview (I assume you asked them questions about the program, etc) and a day of consideration, you still think fondly of the program.

By an interview, do you mean an appointment/talk with a professor while visiting a department?
