Sending in both Oct and Nov scores

Post by stfan104 » Sat Dec 08, 2012 8:40 am

So I got November subject test scores by phone today. I got 77th percentile for my October score and 83rd percentile for my November score. I already sent in my October scores since I thought I was going to do worse. Do you guys think it would be worth it to send in my November score? I am applying to Berkeley and such, so they do have the 80th percentile barrier. Would sending in both scores reflect badly on my part? (because sending in one score, it could be seen as a fluke, but sending in another score at the same level, reconfirms the level I am at)

I think it's clear what you have to do: for schools that don't know your October score, use the ScoreSelect option and report the higher score. For schools that do know your October score, just go ahead and send the higher Nov scores - it won't really matter whether you use ScoreSelect for the latter bunch of schools.

I don't think taking the GRE exam twice is something that you can spin off as an advantage the way you describe.

Oh and congrats. :)

It is so bad that ETS has sent the Subject GRE scores to the schools I have requested, but is not displaying the scores when I log into my account online. When do you guys think they will make the scores available online? I mean, now that they are done checking, why keep us in suspense? Will they upload the scores during the maintenance time they have scheduled from Saturday 10.30 pm to Sunday 8 am (EST NY)? Is that what usually happens, as previous test takers might be able to tell?

How many questions did you answer on the November test to get 83%? What would you estimate your raw score to be?

They will delay the scores for as long as possible to entice us into paying US$12 for getting our scores by phone.

Probably be available online some time on 10 Dec.

I found out last time around that the scores come out online around midnight EST on the day they said they were to be released (so, earliest possible moment).

To the op. First of all congrats, since you are the first one to get the scores can you open a thread like "November Scores" ? It would be great to know how many questions you answered etc.

Since I don't have much hope I think I will save my 12$ for now, otherwise I guess I would have phoned them too(I already paid them $50 for rescheduling and anoter $175 for the General test, another $100 for transportation since I had to go to another city so I really don't want to pay another $12).

Again Congrats on the nice score.

BTW I think you should send the new scores no matter what. If you can send only the new ones that's great , otherwise I still believe it is a positive signal...

To the OP. , first congrats, second, I think you should send your second score to berkeley , because missing the 80% barrier is riskier , they generally don't distinguish between high scores , meaning they dont rank students based on their scores , they just care if you are at the high end (> 80%) unless its exceptional (> 95%), thirdly could you please share the region where you took the test (north america, europe, asia, etc) besides the number of questions you solved and ur estimated rawa score ? thanks and good luck

How lenient do you think Berkeley is with the 80% barrier? I already have a mostly completed application but I only have 59th percentile. Should I just forget it? It sucks because I already paid for scores to be sent :(.

Woah, this thread got active. For raw score information, for the Nov test I left only 7 blank and the Oct test I left 5 blank. I'm pretty prone to errors when it comes to timed tests, so I'm guessing maybe I missed 10 or so of the ones I did? I didn't really think about the test after I took them, I'd get too depressed.

Does anyone know the process on how to submit both scores? My submitted apps only have oct scores on them, should I just email them telling I've had ETS send them updated Nov scores?

So you guys believe that they will indeed release the scores on the 10th? I mean, I have a friend who's currently studying at the University of Illinois, Urbana, and she warned me that last year, the November scores were made available online nearly 5 days after they were available by phone. Typical business policy... do you think ETS might resort to such mean policies yet again this time? It would certainly be impossible to wait for the scores after tomorrow :(

I doubt they would upload it after 5 days. That would give us just a day(or two) for the schools with a Dec. 15th deadline.

I am guessing that the scores would be available after the scheduled maintenance time gets over. So, in about 7.5 hours.

I guess that was wrong. Am able to log in to the MyGRE account, but the scores are still unavailable.

For people who took the October test(or earlier), do they upload the scores on the date they say they will?

Yep... same question here... could somebody enlighten us on this? Are the ETS people as punctual as we hope they are? :x

I think they are. In my October test I got the online results at the 12th of November,as indicated in their site.

Just saw the scores... got 810 or 83 percentile... is that too bad? I mean... would it affect my chances in Pure Maths departments? Like Minnesota and MIT (not that I stand much chance in this one anyway)?

According to UC Berkeley, anything 80 percentile and above indicates "adequate preparation". So you are fine!
