The Roommate Thread (For Those Who Have Decided)
Hey peeps!
So I'm pretty sure that most of us will be going to new locations for grad school, and it would be great (at least for me) if we knew people in our programs before starting the program or having a roommate in a new location we would be in... plus you save a ton by having a roommate regardless. I'm sure most of us are mature, studious, and cordial people so no crazy issues would arise.
I'll be going to Ohio State in the fall (well starting in July for the headstart program). I am a male and am open to having either gender as a roommate. I have no idea where area I'll be living or any of that but if any of you who are going to OSU in the fall and are interested in having a roommate, feel free to PM me.
If anyone else is going to a different school and is interested in having a roommate/ knowing people in their program before it starts, feel free to list your school of intent, gender if you wish, so others can PM/contact you.

Re: The Roommate Thread (For Those Who Have Decided)
Great idea!
I'll be going to Northwestern University. I'm a male student, also open to either gender as a roommate. I haven't looked much into particular places (I'm working on my honors thesis, haha). But yeah. If you play Dota 2, or game at all, def. let me know, but it doesn't really matter too much haha. Just PM away.

Re: The Roommate Thread (For Those Who Have Decided)
I'm about 60% sure I'm going to OSU in the fall. I should be able to tell you very soon (c'mon Purdue... get your shit together...). If I do end up going, I'm absolutely down to be roommates. I'm a male, 21 years old. I've been told the area around campus isn't super safe and that taking the bus from Grandview Heights is a pretty good move. This is the thread I started on the OSU subreddit:

Sounds good! Just let me know when you find out. I'm super excited to live in Columbus. When I visited the school I fell in love! Thanks for posting the thread though because I was looking around for places to live and I literally had no idea where to pick or where to start haha. I'll read it!rmg512 wrote:I'm about 60% sure I'm going to OSU in the fall. I should be able to tell you very soon (c'mon Purdue... get your shit together...). Re: The Roommate Thread (For Those Who Have Decided)
It seems most likely that I will be going to Ohio State as well. thanks rmg512 for sharing the thread, it has lots of useful info. what do you guys think about on campus housing ? I have no idea if that is even available for grad students!rmg512 wrote:I'm about 60% sure I'm going to OSU in the fall. They do have on campus housing but I don't really see the advantage of doing that. It's mostly for families I believe and there isn't a drastic difference in cost from what I can see. Well there's two options, one is in Buckeye Village (the family oriented one) and another is the graduate student building which is very pricey haha.math_applicant wrote:It seems most likely that I will be going to Ohio State as well. thanks rmg512 for sharing the thread, it has lots of useful info. what do you guys think about on campus housing ? Re: The Roommate Thread (For Those Who Have Decided)
thanks for the info. I am just under the impression that on-campus housing is kind of easier to arrange long-distance through the international students office for example in my case, at least for the first year. Also, I am not sure if we mean the same thing by on campus residences, I meant like student dormitories. I really don't know if these are the same thing.y45askel wrote:math_applicant wrote: They do have on campus housing but I don't really see the advantage of doing that. Re: The Roommate Thread (For Those Who Have Decided)
Hey Guys!
Yet another likely OSU student here. I'm leaning toward on campus housing right now, just because I feel like that would be easier, at least for the first year while I get my feet wet. I'm not really sure what the norm is, but I'm sure we'll find out soon! If anyone else winds up doing the same thing as whatever I do, I would love to room together. Male, 21 years old, open to either gender. I also like video games and basketball, if anyone else shares those interests.
So you guys are probably going to the admitted students weekend, right? If so, I look forward to meeting you all very soon!

Ahh okay. Yeah I'm not sure if graduate students can live in student dormitories, but you probably can. On the housing website for OSU I'm sure you can contact them and they can help you with that.math_applicant wrote:thanks for the info. Glad to see so many OSU students.

Anyone for WashU in St. Louis know about housing/interested in rooming together?
Re: The Roommate Thread (For Those Who Have Decided)
the probability that I will run into another Dartmouth College admit in this thread is astronomically small...

Actually, I am 98% sure that I will accept an offer from Dartmouth for next Fall.Legendre wrote:the probability that I will run into another Dartmouth College admit in this thread is astronomically small...

When you say "next fall", do you mean September 2013? Or September 2014?someone_else wrote: Actually, I am 98% sure that I will accept an offer from Dartmouth for next Fall.

Going to Duke here, planning on moving at the beginning of August. Anyone else?
Re: The Roommate Thread (For Those Who Have Decided)
I will attend Maryland (AMSC). I already have a roommate. However, I would still be interested in talking to future Maryland students (both AMSC and Pure).
